After 14 years Heinz No Salt Added ketchup is no longer made with AlsoSalt. But this change does not diminish the story of success and our journey as told below.
The ketchup you love seasoned with AlsoSalt, a great tasting salt alternative. With AlsoSalt, Heinz was able to remove the added salt and keep the delicious flavor you expect.
Nathan Brandt, in the research and development division of H.J. Heinz, centered on the company's iconic flagship; Heinz Ketchup. He pursued novel methods of product improvement based on new theories of sodium transduction on the tongue. Using our sodium free salt substitute, AlsoSalt, he began with a 25% salt reduction, continued on to 33%, 50%, and boldly landed on a complete 100% reduction of salt. By 2006 he had successfully reformulated a poor performing No Sodium ketchup SKU. The No Salt Added ketchup remains in production, more than a decade and a half later, and continues to buck the trend for short life span product launches in many CPG (consumer packaged goods) companies today.
